The Story of Jackson Electric Guitars

When Grover released the new guitar he decided to brand it with his own name because he thought that its design would be too revolutionary to Charvel's more traditional market. The success of the Rhoads model drove Grover to create his own company, the Jackson Guitar Company.

Grover Jackson was the owner and initial founder of Jackson Guitars. Grover was a partner of Wayne Charvel from Charvel Guitar Repair. The most famous guitar made by the Jackson Guitar Company is the Rhoads V model which was designed by the rock guitarist Randy Rhoads. Randy famously played with Ozzy Osbourne and Quiet Riot.

Some of the original endorsers who are still with the Jackson label - some being so for over 10 years - include: Carlos Cavazo, Chris Caffery, Metal Mike, Rob Cavestany, Mark Morton and Phil Collen. These artists having been playing - and abusing - Jackson guitars for more than a decade.

Fender acquired the Jackson and Charvel companies in 2002 and the guitar making operation moved to Corona, USA where Fender has its factory. Fender has decided to keep the historical Charvel look. Its guitars are similar to the original San Dimas Charvels, with a few slight adjustments.

Most Jackson Guitars, as well as many of theirs cousins from Charvel, have the distinctive Gibson Explorer-like spiked dropped headstocks. This look was originally designed by the late Randy Rhoads. One variety of this headstock has the spikes and tip upturned. Another well known Jackson design is the shark fin fret inlays.

If you are a rock guitarist or heavy metal guitarist, then you have bound to have heard of the (in)famous Jackson Guitars.

As a result of the Jackson and Charvel guitars being manufactured by Fender, the two original labels have lost the guitarists that were sponsored by the brands in the 1990s and 1990s. These artists have been taken up by other guitar manufacturers instead.
